 UPCOMING EVENTS

Scottish Historical Fiction Event 8th and 9th September 2018

We are really looking forward to our two events over the weekend!

IT'S NAE THE TUDORS - Saturday 8th September

This is our first Historical Fiction Event, something which we are hoping to take forward over the years.  We have a wonderful selection of authors to discuss various periods in Scottish history - Andrew Greig, Susan Fletcher, Maggie Craig, Shirley McKay, Margaret Cook, Dilys Rose, Margaret Skea and Angela Macrae Shanks.  Author talks/discussions/question and answers, culminating in an Intermell (old Scots) to mingle with the authors and enjoy a glass of wine and some nibbles.

YOUNG READERS FESTIVAL (Primary 4-7) - Sunday 9th September

Young Readers Scottish Historical fiction, featuring a morning with the authors Barbara Henderson and Lindsay Littleson, who have written books about Victorian times in Scotland and the Highland Clearances.  Listen to them talk about their books and then take part in a writing competition (with prizes!).  In the afternoon, there will be 2 workshops with Eden Court Theatre, who are coming to Grantown for the event.

Tickets for both events available from The Bookmark, Grantown-on-Spey

The Bookmark is keen to stimulate community enthusiasm in all things literary.  To that end we aim to bring interesting, exciting authors to Grantown, both established names and those starting out on their writing careers.

Tues 13th Semptember 2016 we held an event with Catherine Czerkawska  for her novel "The Jewel" in The Garth Hotel, Grantown on Spey. "The Jewel" is a fascinating novel about the life of Jean Armour and her husband, Robert Burns. There was book discussion by the author and audience and songs of Robert Burns sung by Marie-Louise Napier. We had a wonderful turnout, over 40. See the author's thoughts on the evening: http://wordarts.blogspot.co.uk/

The Bookmark is also responsible for organising Grantown's new Wee Crime Festival which runs in the autumn.  'Dark Nights, Dark Deeds... Death in Grantown' is a great success, this season is our 6th year. Details to follow...
